Art in Public Places Seminar

This seminar event in June 2007 focused on different methods of exhibiting contemporary art in a public setting.  It co-insided with Hinterland’s programme of events alongside the River Trent in Nottingham and also created a link to the AHRC funded ‘Water, Culture and Society’ programme at Nottingham University – thus creating valuable connections to the Trentside exhibition curated by Nicholas Alfrey which took place at Djanogly Gallery in 2003. It also linked to research projects at the University into sustainable and green methods of presenting artwork and documenting the riverside area.

The event featured testimonies from artists who make work in the public realm and international experts in public art commissioning including: Isabel Vasseur, Director of ArtOffice (and whom featured recently in Channel 4’s The Big Art Project,) www.artoffice.co.uk,  John Newling, Professor of Installation Sculpture at Nottingham Trent University ,www.john-newling.com; Artists group UNWETTER,  Catherine Hemelryk, Curator CAC Vilnius, Lithuania www.cac.lt, Nicholas Alfrey, Senior lecturer in Art History at the University of Nottingham.
